Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2026 GLA Electric, the first all electric version of its popular compact luxury SUV. Built on the new MMA platform with 800V architecture, it offers longer range, faster charging, and advanced EV technology. The lineup includes GLA 250, GLA 250+, and GLA 350 4MATIC variants, with power outputs of up to 354 hp and a 0–100 km/h time of just 5.4 seconds. With its premium design, strong performance, and modern features, the new GLA Electric is set to be a major player in the luxury electric SUV segment.

GLA 200 Electric The Entry Point

At launch, buyers choose between the 165 kW GLA 200 electric (224 hp) with a 58 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.

The GLA 200 is the most affordable entry into the electric GLA family. Its LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery is the same chemistry used in many mainstream electric cars it is thermally stable, safe, and has a long cycle life. The trade-off is a lower energy density, which limits the range. At €48,599, the GLA 200 is the “entry-level” model in the trio but offers the lowest range up to 447 kilometres and a charging power of 200 kW. Real-world range will be lower than the 447 km WLTP figure, but for most daily driving needs, this is still more than sufficient.

The new Merc GLA Electric range starts with the 224hp, front wheel drive GLA 200, but sadly we won’t be getting this version in the UK. Over here, our options start with the GLA 250+. The GLA 200 will be the most widely sold version in continental Europe and other global markets.

GLA 250+ Electric The Mid Range Hero (From €54,977)

The €6,378 premium for the GLA 250+ buys an additional 210 kilometres of range and the full 320 kW charging power.

The GLA 250+ is where the electric GLA’s story gets genuinely exciting. It uses the same 85 kWh NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery as the flagship GLA 350 4Matic, offering up to 657 km of WLTP range the longest claimed range of any variant in the lineup. The GLA 250+ increases output to 272 HP while retaining the same 335 Nm torque figure. In markets using different testing or conversion standards, this equates to approximately 268 hp.

The 250+ is front wheel drive a single rear mounted electric motor drives the rear wheels for a natural, rear-biased handling character. Combined with the 85 kWh NMC battery, the 320 kW charging capability, and the 657 km WLTP range claim, the GLA 250+ is likely to be the bestselling variant of the three.

GLA 350 4Matic Electric The Performance Flagship (From €58,107)

The Mercedes-Benz GLA 350 4MATIC Electric is the range topping model, featuring dual electric motors, all wheel drive, 354 hp, and 515 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, making it one of the quickest electric SUVs in its class.

Despite its performance, the GLA 350 still delivers an impressive 643 km (WLTP) range. It also offers a 2,500 kg towing capacity, making it one of the most capable compact luxury electric SUVs for towing caravans and trailers.

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLA Electric features a striking new illuminated LED front grille, giving the SUV a distinctive look day and night. Sharper body lines, redesigned bumpers, and a sculpted bonnet add a more modern and premium appearance while retaining the GLA’s compact SUV proportions.

Inside, the cabin gets the latest MBUX infotainment system with an improved voice assistant, over the air updates, and a sleek twin screen dashboard. The minimalist layout and premium materials enhance the luxury feel, making the GLA Electric both stylish and tech focused.

Mercedes-Benz will expand the GLA Electric lineup in early 2027 with a new 71 kWh battery variant. Positioned between the 58 kWh and 85 kWh models, it is expected to offer the best balance of range, performance, and price for most buyers.

The brand will also introduce a 1.5-litre turbo petrol mild hybrid GLA with a 48V system, giving customers who aren’t ready to switch to a fully electric SUV another efficient option.
